Ivalo Airport – IVL Ivalo

Ivalo Airport is located seven miles southeast of Ivalo, Finland and is the northernmost airport in Finland and in the European Union. Ivalo is the municipal center of Inari and is 16 miles north of Saariselka. The public airport is operated by Finavia, a public limited company which is responsible for maintaining and developing airport networks in Finland. Ivalo is famous to have trails and seasonal view of the northern lights, Aurora Borealis. It is also where the ear-shaped mountain, Korvatunturi, the folkloric home of Santa Claus, can be seen.

Ivalo Airport has a single asphalt runway measuring 8,199 feet in length. Based on 2017 statistics from Aeronautical Information Publication of Finland, the airport handled 210,566 passengers and 1,026 landings. The airport is served by Finnair and Norwegian Air Shuttle serving the destination in Helsinki whileeasyJet, Jet2.com, Lufthansa, Transavia, TIU Airways and TIU fly Netherlands seasonally fly to London-Gatwick, Kittila, Glasgow, Manchester, Amsterdam and Rovaniemi. The airport is equipped with an automated external defibrillator, café, fireplace, free Wi-Fi, a meeting room, restaurants and shops. The airport is near the city of Saariselka.

Hotel Kultahippu is 3.75 miles from the airport and is located at the heart of Ivalo. Hotel Ivalo is only 3.35 miles from the airport and is surrounded by Northern Lapland’s wilderness and the National Park. The other hotel, which is not too close, is the cozy Ukonjarven Holidya Village is just 9 miles from the airport. Located just 12 miles from the airport is the Northern Lights Village Saariselka, where you can sleep under see-through roofs and watch the night sky.
